“Music At The Mill”
Join the Francis Mill Preservation Society at the mill on May 20, 2006 for a wonderful afternoon of western North Carolina bluegrass music.
Headlining the show will be Grammy Award winning artist Marc Pruett and The Whitewater Bluegrass Company Band. Other artists planning to participate include local favorites The Hill Country Band, Balsam Gap and Celesa Willett.
We will also offer barbeque plates and a silent auction to benefit the mill. We do need members of the FMPS to help with this project so if you would be interested in volunteering with tasks such as parking, selling tickets, leading tours of the mill, or other jobs please let us know!
For the latest information please check out our website at www.francismill.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
2006 Summer Workshop
Dates for this summer’s mill workshop have been set for the weeks of June 18-24 and June 25 –July 1. This year’s workshop promises to be an exciting time for participants and supporters. We will again have the leadership of Mr. Jeff Finch of the National Park Service. Two major undertaking are in the works: reconstruction of the mill race and completion of the restoration of the main structure of the mill. For those who pass by the mill on a regular basis, you’re aware that there is no mill race. An ice storm in the 1980’s brought down the structure. Hopefully, after this year’s workshop you’ll be able to see a reconstruction similar to the original race as seen in this photo.
Volunteers Needed!
As well as the folks who will be doing restoration and reconstructing we will need volunteers to provide food for the workers! The meals you have provided for the two previous workshops have been a big hit! Help us feed this summer’s volunteer crew, too!
